ABOUT THE MEETING
The Cancer Research Network Scientific Meeting aims to give University of Sydney postgraduate research students, from all disciplines, the opportunity to present their research, share and discuss work within the student community, to hear about postdoctoral experiences, and to network with colleagues.

KEYNOTE LECTURE
Professor Rob Baxter, Director, Kolling Institute of Medical Research will open the meeting with a plenary address on ‘future directions in cancer research’.

FORMAT
Student presentation sessions will be divided into four areas, which reflects the focus of cancer research:

  • Basic science
  • Public health
  • Clinical
  • Psychosocial

Each session will open with a presentation from an invited speaker, followed by short presentations from selected students about their current postgraduate research.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS ARE NOW CLOSED
Submissions are currently being reviewed by members of the Organising Committee and will be selected on a competitive basis. Submissions will be judged on originality, technical strength, significance, quality of research, and interest and relevance to the meeting delegates.


THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY CANCER RESEARCH NETWORK STUDENT AWARDS (VALUED AT $100 EACH)

To be awarded to the most outstanding student presenter within each of the following research areas:

  • basic biomedical cancer research
  • public health/clinical/psychosocial cancer research

The two recipients of these awards will receive $100 each. This prize money must be used for the recipient’s continued cancer research or to fund travel to a cancer-related conference.

The Awards Ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the meeting from 3.50pm – 4.00pm.


IMPORTANT DATES

  • Friday 11 September 2009: Abstract submission and registration opens
  • Friday 2 October 2009: Abstract submission closes
  • Friday 16 October 2009: Notification of abstract submission (acceptance/rejection)
  • Friday 30 October 2009: Registration closes
  • Friday 6 November 2009: Scientific Meeting
